Child support in California is based on the net incomes of the parties and the amount of time the child is in one’s custody.  The judge or the hearing offficer uses  formula for calculating support and hearing support cases has immediate access to the child support software.   The law demands that support be ordered according to the support calculations.  However, there are many entries in the support software that can change the result.
